Wedding ring sizes

Picture this. You go through all the effort to choose a wedding ring you like, you save up your hard earned for it, buy it and then the big moment arrives when you see it in the flesh for the first time. You try it on, aaaaand it doesn’t fit. What a let down. Well that does happen let me assure you. And what a disappointment it is when it happens.

So how can you safeguard yourself against such disappointment? Well I’m glad you asked!

Finding the correct ring size is, itself quite an art form. The biggest issue is that there is actually no perfect ring size. How can that be so? Well the biggest reason is that your fingers will swell and shrink as the seasons change. In the really hot weather, your fingers will swell up. In the freezing cold, your fingers will reduce in size. Think of what happens to your feet during changes to weather.

This change in size can amount to a whole size in difference which is significant. The best thing to do is to make sure you have a bit of leeway either side. So a bit of room should your finger swell. The best way to do this is to see if you can try a ring on in different climatic conditions. A great way is to buy a real cheap ring that you think fits, and then wear it after a really hot shower, and then also when it is really cold outside. Make sure you confirm the size of the ring (a jeweller can do this for you, they have the tools). And then you can order in that size.

You also need to take into account if you are going to put on or lose weight into the future. If you are a person that is prone to easily putting on weight, and you’ve had to work hard to trim down for the wedding, consider, is it likely that you’ll put weight on after the wedding? If it is, then you might want to make sure there is a little bit of give. Don’t laugh, this is a common occurrence, it does happen!!

This may sound like a fair bit of effort to go through but really, this could be on your finger for decades potentially, so it pays to take that extra bit of effort early on and you’ll have less hassles later. You should never assume that you’ll be easily able to re-size a ring, particularly with contemporary metals. With rings made out of gold, re-sizing is quite easy to do.

Here is a great article on how to choose the correct ring size. Its worth investing the time now so that changing your ring size is something you simply don’t need to worry about!
